Alms giving

Description:
Donating money, food or other goods or services to those poorer than oneself.
Context:
Among Hindus, Jews, Christians, Muslims and other groups such activity is seen as having enriching properties for the spiritual life of the donor. Contemporary thinking stresses the importance of sharing wealth and goods in order to more equitably distribute the resources available to humankind. In some cases it is a means of improving an individual's or institution's public image or receiving tax benefits.

1. Alms giving is more important for the giver than the receiver for public image or tax purposes. 2. It is used to alleviate a sense of quilt about the avoidance or to deal with the underlying social issues. 3. It is actively avoiding more fundamental issues.
