Supporting research on land degradation

Description:
Undertaking research to develop methodologies and techniques for recovery and rehabilitation of degraded land, inter alia, through reintroduction of appropriate species.
Implementation:
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends supporting national, regional and global programmes for integrated data collection and research networks carrying out assessment of soil and land degradation.
