Avoiding diffuse pollution of agricultural chemicals

  • Reducing fugitive emissions from farming

Implementation

This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends identification and application of such best environmental practices so as to avoid diffuse pollution through a limited, rational and planned use of nitrogenous fertilizers and other agrochemicals (pesticides, herbicides) in agricultural practice.
