Expanding scope of environmental funding to relevant programme areas in Agenda 21
- Expanding funding coverage to globally beneficial programme areas in Agenda 21
Implementation
This strategy features in the framework of Agenda 21 as formulated at UNCED (Rio de Janeiro, 1992), now coordinated by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development and implemented through national and local authorities. Agenda 21 recommends restructuring the Global Environment Facility so as to, inter alia, have sufficient flexibility to expand its scope and coverage to relevant programme areas of Agenda 21, with global environmental benefits.
