Preventing atrocious human rights violations

Implementation

In cooperation with the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances and the relevant treaty monitoring bodies, as well as NGOs, the High Commissioner has taken steps to study recommendations for the effective implementation of the Declaration on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.

Campaigns for strengthening states' assistance to victims of torture and involuntary disappearance, including increased support for the Voluntary Fund for the Victims of Torture, are being carried out. Measures and methods applied in this regard require further examination as to their efficiency. In cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centre will take concrete steps to ensure that principles of medical ethics are made familiar to physicians and other relevant professions. The Committee against Torture, the Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances and the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture are to be provided with all the necessary support. Interaction between them and the advisory services and technical assistance programme will be strengthened.
