Fundamentalism

Synonyms:
Holding fundamentalist principles
Description:

Advocating rigid adherence to basic religious beliefs as set out in religious writings; generally applied within Christianity or Islam.

Claim:

Religions by their very nature of claiming special revelations would be inconsistent if they allowed their scriptures to be viewed as man-made and thus historically conditioned. By asserting their fundamental basis apart from history, that is the universal truth for all times to lie in these writings, the fundamentalists protect them from editing, abridgement and other deformations and thus preserve their cultural as well as spiritual heritages.

Counter Claim:

All truths must be adapted to the situation in which they are to be applied.
