Reduced images of humanness

Images of what it is to be a human being have been reduced by an over emphasis on productivity, material wealth, scientific validity, observable progress, self-gratification and numerous other social values. A sense of wonder at the mystery of being alive as a human being has been replaced by grim determination to improve one's position on one hand or a benumbed drive to happiness on the other.
