Preoccupation with security structures
Nature
Fear of the unknown and of death blackmails people and enslaves them to security structures by intensifying their attachment to life and the need for security. When mechanisms for maintaining personal security are impinged on, the individual experiences trauma, guilt and a sense of failure. Social mores indicate that the first priority is taking care of one's own personal welfare, making one's world secure. This creates defence systems, idolises success and material possessions, and reinforces the idea "charity begins at home". The energy expended in building structures for personal and family security inhibits capacity to imagine a new future. The result is limited vision, seeing life in a narrow and static "now".
