Pollution from military bases

Name(s):
Leaking military fuel depots
Contaminated military bases
Incidence
A UK survey of military bases in the UK, the Falkland Islands and Germany, discovered that many storage facilities for highly toxic solvents, de-icing fluids, and petroleum products were dangerously outdated. As well as isolated spillage, there were many cases where continuous leakage was occurring. Airfields were particularly contaminated. Some contamination showed cancer-causing chemicals (such as trichoroethane) up to 10 times the WHO limit and there was concern about contamination reaching water supplies.
