Paper qualification syndrome

Name(s):
Reliance on paper qualifications
Claim
The long theoretical training of doctors is partly a show - designed to make medicine look difficult, and therefore to increase the intellectual status of doctors in society. The exaggerated sense of doctor's intellect makes him or her liable to incompetence. Mere book learning does not qualify anybody to be a doctor. In the end, experience is much more valuable than paper qualifications.
