Originally a European movement, nudism began in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century with the Nacktkultur groups. Nudist Societies were formed in England, France, Scandinavia and a few other European Countries after the First World War, and in the USA and Canada in the 1930s, but has little following in Latin or Roman Catholic countries.
2. Compulsory group nakedness in school showers constitutes a gross infringement upon the civil liberties of a child. It is hard enough to bear the misery of visible impediments, but to be made to parade naked and reveal hitherto hidden inadequacies in the quintessential humiliation for the pubescent child.
3. Modern beauty pageants may replace the liturgical role of nudity. The rise of the cult of nudism may be symptomatic of modern man's loss of confidence in rationality. Nudism is democratic, as all distinctions of secular rank are removed which is reminiscent of the comradeship and egalitarianism characteristic of initiation rites.
2. The public likes nudity in the theatre and the media, as do producers, writers, directors and actors, provided it is dramatically and aesthetically relevant.
