Media globalitis

Name(s):
Internationalist media coverage
International politicization of media events
Imbalance between international and domestic affair coverage in the news
Nature
Media globalitis has been described as "a state of mind that elevates the importance of foreign over domestic affairs" as dictated by the media. The politicization of media events may be an inevitable result of an increasingly globalized world, whose ground and trade wars involve and attract an international audience and whose sophisticated international communications systems allow the instantaneous reception of global information. Some complain the media's intense investment in foreign affairs detracts from the coverage of important domestic issues, resulting in deficiencies of quality and duration of coverage of local news.
