[Time] magazine claimed in 1994 that a quarter of all pedigree dogs suffer from a genetic disorder (almost exclusively due to selective breeding). Almost all breeds ave their own problems, eg the eye problems such as cataracts or specifically of Dobermanns (inflamammed), chows (turned-in eyelids).
Claim
The concept of an animal as being owned as personal property results in much animal suffering. Since such animals are believed to exist primarily for the pleasure of humans, they have become an object of human violence, vanity and neglect.
