Nature 
An acute infectious disease of sheep (sometimes cattle, rarely pigs and horses) caused by [Clostridium novyi] Type B. The organism multiplies in areas of liver necrosis resulting from the migration of liver flukes, and it produces a powerful necrotizing toxin.
Incidence 
The disease is worldwide, wherever sheep and liver flukes coincide. It is most prevalent in 1-4 year old sheep.
