Inaccessibility of insurance

Name(s):
Unavailable insurance cover
Incidence
[Small island developing states] Island developing countries may be subject to earthquakes, tsunamis, tropical storms and other natural disasters that destroy crops, food in storage, housing, industry, the environment, the economy, and human lives. These countries cannot find insurance through normal sources to cover these contingencies by providing funds for disaster relief, reconstruction, and commercial obligations on which they would otherwise have to default, thus impairing their credibility and credit worthiness as trade partners.
