Impunity of government agents

Nature
In those cases where government agents engage in malpractice or abuse of power, it is typically difficult to bring them to justice. When this is possible, the legal process is often handled in such a way as to create the impression of miscarriage of justice and the abuse goes unpunished. When the person is convicted, it is often the case that the sentence is subsequently significantly reduced or the person is freed on dubious grounds once public attention moves to other issues.
