Icing on aircraft

Nature
Icing causes deterioration of the aircraft's aerodynamic characteristics, flight performance, stability and controllability. It also increases frontal drag; can interfere with the operation of engines, navigational instruments and radio equipment; and can lead to a crash.
Incidence
A US commercial plane crash killing 27 people in March 1992 was the result of severe icing on the aircraft's wings.
