Vitamin E deficiency in domestic animals
Incidence
Vitamin E deficiency occurs in pigs, cattle, sheep, rabbits, chickens and other animals raised for food. Muscular dystrophy is the most frequent, and, from a diagnostic point of view, the most important manifestation of the vitamin E-deficiency syndrome in domestic animals. Liver necrosis seems to be restricted to the pig. Other symptoms and lesions such as anaemia, yellow fat, gastric ulcers, reproduction disturbances, and neonatal mortality occur sporadically. Species-differences in the absorption vitamin E supplied in feeds are highly probable.
