Borer insects

Incidence
Crop borers cause serious damage to staple food crops (maize, sorghum, millet, rice, and cowpeas) and to timber. Abrupt and serious outbreaks may occur after long periods of absence and farmers are often unprepared. Crop borers are responsible for 20 to 75% of the losses due to pests of maize in much of Africa.
