Culicine mosquitoes are members of one of the largest genera of medically important mosquitoes. They are biting pests and vectors of disease, with worldwide distribution. In particular they transmit various forms of virus encephalitis, mainly diseases of domestic and wild animals, but they also occur in epidemic form in man.
