Denial of right to economic security during periods of unemployment
- Abuse by employers of lack of employment protection
- Systematic abuse of statutory employment rights
Nature
In times of widespread unemployment and increasing job insecurity employers may abuse their advantage. Where they are not bound to the terms and conditions of full-time work, there is a tendency to make use of casual labour.
Incidence
In the UK in 1993 companies were alleged to be habitually firing employees just before a 2-year qualifying period for employment protection or maternity rights. Women were paid less than men.
