Problem

Heart rot fungi

Nature:

Diseases caused by heart rot fungi may be classified into trunk, butt and root rots, all of which cause damage of economic significance. Root rot is especially insidious because it is difficult to determine the extent of the infection without seriously harming or killing the host tree. The incidence of heart rot causes much wastage during logging.

Incidence:

The fungi are most prevalent in forests in areas with high rainfall, such as northern India.
