Problem

Inadequacies of foreign consultants

Nature:

Faced with a strange language and a strange culture, a foreign consultant may find it difficult to give advice which will be at once professional and acceptable. To understand the country and its traditions he may need longer than his contract allows; in consequence, he may give advice that is either too narrowly restricted to his particular skill and takes insufficient account of national circumstances, or which is too tentative and guarded to be worth while. A large number of short-term consultants from a variety of cultural traditions - a feature of some international teams - may produce confusion.
