Consumer boycott of foreign goods

Other Names:
Antipathy against buying foreign products
Consumer refusal of foreign imports
Nature:
In response to growing dependence on imported goods from countries with increasing economic power, consumers may personally or collectively reject the marketing of products from those countries. In the absence of governmental cessation of foreign imports, individual consumers ultimately control the demand for imported products. Consumer boycott may disrupt economic relationships between countries, leaving the government answerable to tensions in trade.
