Denial of economic and social rights to refugees

  • Abuse of refugee status

Nature

In many countries refugees encounter difficulties in obtaining employment either because legal access to the labour market is restricted, or because in practice preference is given to nationals. Widespread recessionary trends have exacerbated these difficulties. The proliferation of ill-founded or abusive applications for refugee status causes overloading of procedures, long delays, higher administrative costs, and problems for bonafide asylum-seekers.

Claim

By and large the governments of the European Union are without a doubt guilty of systematic violations of human rights with regard to treatment of refugees and asylum-seekers.
