All education, beginning with family education, has the task of socializing children and adolescents. Schools undertake civic education (especially in newly independent countries or those which have recently recovered their national identity) and ideological education (in countries where leaders of a revolution consider it their duty to capture minds and to topple all the bastions of the past). Such education may, however, aim at conditioning individuals in order to make them follow set examples and become easy to govern. It may cultivate unthinking respect for hierarchies.
