Shortage of marriageable men

In many industrialized countries people are marrying later in life. Because men usually prefer to marry a younger women rather than someone their own age, the women who choose to marry later encounter a shortage of eligible men their own age. Some also point to the growing acceptability of homosexuality for the shortage of potential husbands.
