Destructive action of mould in tropical climates

Nature

A combination of high temperature (25-30 degrees C) and abundant moisture (70% relative humidity) creates the optimal conditions for cryptogamic growth (fungi, algae, mosses and lichens). These develop on any kind of manufactured organic material, complicating cleaning operations without which the object is permanently discoloured and eventually disintegrates. Mould action is particularly serious in connection with the preservation of paper, books and other records.
