Problem

Alienating public housing

Other Names:
Socially inappropriate public housing
Nature:

Public housing projects are often cheaply built, intensely used, and poorly maintained. They are thus subject to rapid decay. Yet the governments which authorized the construction of such housing are usually reluctant to authorize its destruction. Decaying public housing is, in many countries, a symbol of urban decay and social alienation.
