Problem

Disruption of cultural and social identities in host countries by transnational corporations

Nature:

The effect of transnational corporations on the social institutions and cultural values of host countries may be especially striking if the tenor, tradition and stage of development of these countries differ considerably from those of the home countries. For example, the "business culture", with its emphasis on efficiency, may be considered too impersonal in traditional societies. The very cultural identity and the entire social fabric may be at stake, especially if transnational corporations attempt to transplant their own models of social development to the host country.
