Ambivalence
Description:
Contradictory feelings, both positive and negative, result in a greater coherence which arises from blending of apparently the apparently disparate elements. Thus, according to Jung, every position entails its own negation. Ambivalence is inevitable when archetypal images are concerned, particularly in relation to parents; it also manifests in the pairing of opposites found in the forces of nature, so that good and evil, hope and despair, etc, counterbalance each other.
