Description:
Viveka opens the eyes of the soul, leading to non-attachment to the objects which keep it in bondage. In this state of non-attachment able to discern the permanent from the temporal, the real from the apparent, the illusions of life are detected and the relative reality hidden behind them discovered.

Together with dispassion - [vairagya], desire for liberation - [mumuksutva] and the six great virtues - [satkasampatti], listed by Shankara as one of the four requirements for one who has spiritual aspirations. One of the essential steps in [jnana yoga], the way of knowledge.<
