State of animality

Description:
This is the state of instinctual behaviour, when desires dominate. Here there is the means to adapt to and take advantage of the environment and ensure the survival of one's self and of the species. Here also, however, is the tendency to threaten the weak and fear the strong, which manifests particularly in hierarchical organizations. Animality also manifests in the law of the jungle, exercising power for selfish and partisan ends, supporting a group to the detriment of the wider community. The clearest characteristic is foolishness, when immersion in the present and acting according to instinct one forgets or ignores consequences for the future. this thoughtlessness or mindlessness leaves one open to manipulation by others.
Context:
One of the ten worlds described in Nichiren Soshu Buddhism.<
