Compromise

Description:
The Christian is required to make efforts always to improve the status quo, whether in personal life, in the corporate life of the Church and in the world at large. Attempts are impeded by the carrying over of sin from the past and by the need for agreement with others which involves compromise with one's own wishes. There is always tension between what one wishes and what appears possible. Whether at the personal or collective level the individual has to respond in decisions of his own conscience. Despite individual fallibility due to sin, the possibility of error, and failure through sin to implement a decision once made, there is still a duty attempt both to discover the right course of action and to carry it through. This is compromise between the radical nature of the gospel and the immediate possibilities open to one.
