Working-through

Description:
In order to profit from therapy or any system of self discovery, there seem to be periods of inactivity when no apparent progress takes place. Referred to as "working-through", these periods are of assimilation and coming to terms with what has been experienced before new progress can be made. Such periods also occur after crises such as bereavement. [Working-over] occurs when excitations in the psyche are rearranged internally so as to reduce or prevent the harmful effect of being unable to express them outwardly.
