Samyama

Description:
The central process of yoga - [dharana] (concentration), [dhyana] (meditation) and [samadhi] (contemplation) - eventually leading to liberation beyond object, power and knowledge. The process is a continuous sinking into the centre of one's consciousness and mastery of this process leads to knowledge and to super-physical powers or [siddhis]. By performing samyama or total concentration on a subject, total knowledge of that subject is revealed - for example, performing samyama on the sun brings knowledge of the solar system; performing samyama of a sound brings knowledge of its meaning (whatever language, even of animals). Finally, samyama on the process of time leads to [vivekajam jnanam], awareness of ultimate reality.
